Dengue NS1 Antigen ELISA

Dengue fever and dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) are diseases, found within the tropics, and caused by four closely related virus serotypes of the genus Flavivirus. This test detects the NS1 antigen of Dengue in blood collected serum. Dengue NS1 antigen may be a highly conserved glycoprotein that seems to be essential for virus viability but has no established biological activity. This NS1 antigen is present at high concentrations within the sera of dengue virus-infected patients during the first clinical phase of the disease. Dengue NS1 Ag is often detected from day 1 after the onset of fever. A positive test result indicates the presence of NS1 antigen within the sample and should indicate dengue infection. A negative result indicates the absence of an NS1 antigen. This test is helpful in the diagnosis of early acute dengue infection.
