False Negative: Very dilute urine specimens (low specific gravity) may not contain representative levels of HCG.·When levels of HCG in the urine specimens are below the sensitivity level of the test.·Shortly after implantation when very low levels of HCG (<50 mIU/mL) are present inurine. In the above conditions, repeat the test after 48 hours with a first morning urine specimens.

False Positive Result: Trophoblastic disease· Certain non-trophoblastic tumours, including testicular tumours, prostate, lung and breast cancers. Hence these conditions should be ruled out before urine pregnancy test can be used to diagnose pregnancy.

Weak Positive Result: Should be confirmed after 48hours with a first morning specimen of urine since a significant number of first trimester pregnancies may terminate due to natural causes.
