Test Parameters includes:- 1 Test
Haemoglobinopathy is a kind of genetic defect that results in abnormal structure of one of the globin chains of the hemoglobin molecule.Common haemoglobinopathies include sickle-cell disease and thalassemia. Hemoglobin variants are abnormal forms of hemoglobin.HbA2 value may be decreased in iron deficiency anemia . Retesting is advised after iron treatment.HbA2 value may be slightly elevated in MegaloblasticAnemia and HIV. HbA2 values between 3.3-3.8% needs to be evaluated carefully alongwith family history. HbA2 values between 3.6 to 4.0% may be due to mild beta- thalassemia alleles. Some beta- thalassemia alleles showsnormal HbA2 levels and may not be detected on HPLC and may require molecular assays for confirmation
